Sealing Costs

Estimates are nearly impossible to give before looking at the driveway itself. Different factors effect the final price. If the driveway is older, has never been sealed, or in general is just in bad condition it will take more sealant than a driveway that is only a year or two old, or is sealed on regular intervals.

How often should you apply sealant?

Some feel that it is better to seal your driveway every 3 to 10 years. Others feel that this should be a yearly routine. Both answers depend on the weather conditions for your location. If the area you live in receives a great deal of rain and snow, or ice accumulates frequently in the winter months, or even an area where temperatures can reach over 100 degrees during the summer months and the driveway lacks protection from the suns heat rays, then you should seal your driveway at least every other year. If your climate is moderate then the task could be reduced to every three years. In Altoona PA the weather varies. During the summer it can reach the 100s. During the winter we have massive snow falls and frequent ice, so the recommended sealing ratio is once every two years.

Just simply look at your driveway. If it is chipping or cracking before it is time for a new application of sealant, then it is time to start sealing more frequently.

If you have a new asphalt driveway, be sure not to seal until the driveway is at least 6 months of age or older. New driveways need the 6 month time frame to properly set before a sealer can be applied.
